Pokemon Soul Silver Review

Ok, a new pokemon game, a new set of Pokemon, Right?

Wrong. Pokemon Soul Silver is a remake of the 2001 classic, just greatly improved for the current generation of gaming, but can this remake live up to the legacy of the series?

***Graphics*** 8/10

Pokemon Soul Silver Takes place in the region of Johto, as did the original, all the locations from the first game are back, just with a new polish. the game runs on the D/P/P engine and thus looks almost identical to those games, however there are just enough differences to make telling the difference easy. One of the new features is the ability to have one of your pokemon follow you around, and although the little critters may be slightly out of scale, they look just as you would expect for a DS game.

***Gameplay*** 8/10

The Gameplay in SS is identical to the rest of the series, you run around catching pokemon, battling an evil team, and trying to beat all 8 gyms, however where SS really stands out is the ability to re-visit kanto after completeing the main game, this was especially charming, as it now means that kanto has appeared in every gen to date, and you can see how it has elvolved from pokemon red/blue. this also means that you can battle the eight kanto gyms, bringing the total to 16.

However, SS is a remake and although it may offer several new features, there's nothing to write home about - there are no new major gameplay mechanics to speak of, and despite the fact this game is set in johto, I found myself experiencing alot more kanto pokemon then that from the main region.

***Sound*** 9/10

The pokemon games are praised for many things, but dont get enough credit for the amazing music they produce. the music is amazing, and the remixes of classinc tracks are stunning, there is also the ability to listen to GBC style music, this really brings the nostalgia :)

***Repay value*** 9/10

The pokemon games are praised for the amount of replay value they hold, one beaten the game then gives you the quest of catchin all the pokemon, with around 400-odd to look for, also in this game is the pokeathalon, another experience to keep playing these games, this adds tens of hours to the game, making it one of the longer pokemon games available.

***overall*** 9/10

Overall this is one of the stronger games on the ds, and well worth the wait, its stunning graphics and sound make it one of the best nintendo games for years, and dare i say it: one of the best pokemon games yet?

43/10

+Great graphics and sound
+Pokemon follow you everywhere
+travel between two regions
+not very original
